My floppy says it has a disk when it doesn't.

If I put a floppy in my drive, everything works fine. However, when I take
the floppy out, my system still says it's in there. I can even browse two
levels deep in the floppy and open the files XP says are on the disk, even
though the disk is physically removed. Even logging off and back on doesn't
clear the contents.

Anyone know what's doing this to me?

Thanks in advance.

My Computer, high-light the A drive, On the toolbar, view, refresh.

There is a small switch in the drive that lets it know there is a disk in
it. If that switch, or it's associated circuit, is defective, it does not
now know the disk has been removed. The cost of repairing the switch will
exceed the cost of a new drive.

Thanks. That did it.
