I mysteriously lost my "file" command on the main toolbar in MS Word (Office
XP). How do I get it back? (Edi, View, Insert, Format, etc. are all
there...just lost File)

Rick click on any of your existing menu commands (EDIT, et). Chose CUSTOMIZE
from the right-click options. I'm not using the same version of Word that you
are, so I can't give you specifics...but in there somewhere, you should be
able to find the FILE menu, which you can drag and drop into the correct
location. (I believe it is found in the first tab of the CUSTOMIZATION window)

Alternatively, if you haven't deliberately/purposefully customized your
menu... in the Customize dialog, click on the Toolbars tab. Under Toolbars,
click on Menu Bar, then click on Reset. Confirm by clicking OK, then click
Close.

Many users have reported losing commands from their menu bar. Try these
fixes (in order):

1. Open Tools | Customize. On the Toolbars tab, select Menu Bar and press
Reset.

2. If that doesn't work, switch to the Commands tab and select Built-in
Menus in the Categories list. In the Commands list, select the File
menu and drag it to the menu bar.

3. If that doesn't work (or the problem recurs on restarting Word), see
