MY DOCUMENTS folders

Why is it necessary to have three 'My Documents' folders? I don't
really want one much less three. And since I can't just delete the "My
Documents" folder is there any way to gwet rid of the "My Pictures"
folder permanently? So it will never come back. Thanks,
Walt

"My documents folder" is the name of the default location for the user
documents. You can change the location of the folder to any folder you want.

As for "my pictures" I have no idea if you can permanently remove it or not.

How do you have 3? Do you have 3 separate users? If so, you can cause
Windows to give each folder a unique name instead of 'My Documents'

I think the three folders are in :
Default user
<YOUR ACCOUNT>
Administrator

To delete My pictures and other folders like My videos:
Click Start > Run > Type "regsvr32 /u mydocs.dll" (without quotes) >
CLick Enter
Now delete the folders and they will not be recreated.
If you want to revert the change then
Click Start > Run > Type "regsvr32 mydocs.dll" (without quotes) > CLick
Enter

I have the 'My Documents' folder, there is another in Documents and
Settings under my name and the third is the last folder listed on the
C drive. All contain exactly the same thing. I am the only user of
this computer.

Joe, as for the My Pictures item, the link you sent was a post I made
back in June. I did that, except for the reg changes, I'm not ready to
tamper with the XP registry at this time.
I tried the other things but the My pictures folder magically
re-appers every so often.

Ayush, I have tried that solution also. It works But it had some
secondary effect that I did not like. Can't remember what it was right
now. But, it wasn't good.

I guess I'll have to live with the problem unless I want to go into
the Registry.

Thanks all,

Walt

The three 'My Documents' are essentially the same folder. The one under
C:\Documents and Settings\[UserName] is the real folder. The others are
just links to that folder for quick accessibility.

skeeter: Yes, leave well enough alone and quit tinkering with
stuff that you know nothing about. Everything is as it should
be.
