Have you installed the SATA drivers ?.
And this'll help how exactly? It's not even being detected by the BIOS.

TBH, I'd be seeing if there is a BIOS update for the Dell.

Check your motherboard manual and bios manual if it supports it.

Failing that... IBM/Hitachi has a tool available to adjust the size of the
harddisk.

I know it sounds weird but it reduces the space of the free so that it
appears as a smaller drive.

I would think a relative new system like your pentium 4 would support it..
but I am not too sure.

I hope you get it working dude (and without having to resize it because that
would sux big wouldn't it ;))

I actually bought a 120 gb drive for my old PIII because I knew the bios
wouldn't support bigger drivers.

So check bios/motherboard manual. If you Dell was sloppy enough not to
provide it check dell site or check the manufacturer's site of the
motherboard ?!

It helps to know what's inside your computer !!! Beep Beep over and out.

Bye,
Skybuck.

Maybe the SATA drive is configured in a RAID set up as default in the
BIOS, i would have a check here as well

Just install the drivers for the SATA controller ...the hdd itself does
not need a driver it will just use the default microsoft driver.

Also SATA drive's are not seen in the bios

that's funny, the sata drives on my boards are seen there!

dell may have turned off the ports that he has connected the drive to in the
BIOS. Check the BIOS to be sure they are enabled.
