My contacts are not working properly.

My system crashed and I am trying to recover my Outlook 2000 SR-1
(9.0.0.3821) data. I found the Outlook.pst and restore that file. That got
all my EMails back. Now, I'm trying to recover my contacts. When I look at
the address book, I don't have any of my groups, but if I look at View -->
Folder List I see all the groups and the Email address. How can I make these
available in the Address Book and when I create a new message?

Thanks,

You need to provide more accurate version information: Internet Mail Only or
Corp/Workgroup.

Russ,

It's just Internet Mail Only. Anything else?

Thanks,

You're out of luck, then. IMO was an incomplete version of Outlook which
borrowed heavily from Outlook Express. It used the Windows Address Book not
the Outlook Address Book. Accordingly, the groups you created were never in
Outlook and thus were not retained with its data.
Most of us are glad IMO is long gone.

Russ,

Thanks for the bad news. At least now I know why I couldn't figure out how
to make it work.

What product would you recommend for IMO?

Thanks,

IMO was not your only problem here. Your problem was that you created groups
in the Windows Address Book because that's what IMO uses.
If you had created Distribution Lists in your Contacts Folder, you could
have kept that data. IMO disappeared once Outlook was able to support
Internet Mail Protocols in its full product. So any of the currently
supported versions of Outlook would be far better so you don't run into any
more of the gotcha's that IMO had.

Russ,

Thanks for all your help and advise. So would you recommend Outlook v 2003?
Would that be the most current version or would you recommend another product?

Thanks,

Outlook 2003 is the best version of Outlook yet (by far). The current
version is 11.6568.6568, but any retail version of Outlook 2003 will update
to that version at the Office update site.
