I am having problems with a computer. It is a 3 Ghz machine with 2GB
RAM (not a slow computer by most standards). The computer boots up fast,
but once the desktop appears, it has a couple of problems.
Some icons on the desktop don't appear, and are replaced by the generic
icon that windows uses when it can't find a program's icon.
When you open "My Computer", it displays the animated flashlight for
SEVERAL minutes. During this time, Task Manager shows only minor
processor load. Finally, it loads up. What's connected? Several local
hard drives, and a USB scanner. That's it.
I booted the computer into safe mode with networking and NONE of these
problems exist. So I then used msconfig to remove almost everything
from startup that isn't part of windows, but the problem remains. But
boot into Safe Mode (w/ networking) and everything is fine.
I have scanned the computer for viruses and spyware and found nothing.
I ran HiJack This! in safe mode. Nothing!
what do I do next? Thanks!!!
