My computer shuts down when I'm playing games

Whenever I play games like Warcraft III, or Counter Strike, m
computer shuts down. It's obviously an overheating problem of som
sort, and this only happens during the Summer months (when my roo
gets really hot) I checked my Bios and it said my CPU temp was 67

Is there anything I can do to prevent this shutting down

I took the case off my tower, but it still overheats

I took a picture of the inside of my computer (if it matters

Yes, stop it overheating.
I took the case off my tower, but it still overheats.

That can make things worse.

Did it do that last summer ?

Have you checked if the cpu fan is clogged with fur ?

What graphics card are you using ? Have
you checked that its fan is still spinning ?

The way it looks, you're a little cramped in there. Consider a better
heatsink (are you still on cpu standard!?)

It could be a problem also with the gpu, but I doubt it.

What is the room temp when the system overheats?

So long as it's under 35C, your CPU should not be getting
that hot... with the case open like that... when the case is
closed it'll depend on how open the front intake area is.

The back fans would also be far more effective if the
stamped-out grills were completely cut out, but it is not
the immediate problem.

When the system shuts down, does it reboot, lock up, turn
off completely or what?

If it turns off, check your bios or software settings for
the CPU overheat setting. See if lowering that setting,
causes it to shut off sooner. Try to isolate whether this
setting is being invoked to cause this. You could simply
disable the setting temporarily but that is very risky since
the system might be overheating.

What motherboard is that? Looks a bit like an Asus, and
sometimes they're known to report CPU temp around 5C higher
than actual, but even so, an XP2500 isn't so hard to keep
cool.

Next you should consider removing your heatsink, cleaning
off the present thermal compound and installing a fresh,
very thin coat of synthetic thermal compound (like Arctic
Alumina, or Silver, etc). What heatsink make/model is that?
It could be a large part of the problem, and if the base
isn't quite flat you might lap it with fine grit sandpaper
before reinstalling it, but it could be that you simply need
a different 'sink.

Also check the CPU voltage to confirm it is correct per your
CPU. IIRC, an XP2500 used 1.6 or 1.65V?

Sounds like overheating.

1) check the airflow the case fans near the cpu should flow air in the
direction as the cpu fan, ie, if the cpu fan is exhausting air the case
fans should be exhausting.

2) the lower fan should intake air.

3) get a larger case or just get a newer cooler cpu/mb combo. If time
for upgrade, the AMD 64s are coolnquiet. If your mb supports 754 socket
maybe you can get AMD 64 for your current mb.

4) lower room temperature. Looks like the PC is against a wall so hot
exhaust air circulates back into the PC

I can't tell if this is just a side effect of the image quality, but is
that computer dusty?

You also have an open slot plate on the back, which can interfere with
proper airflow.

That last is very unlikely to be the problem.

But so easy a problem to solve.
Seems that action priority (P) is a function of probability (p),
difficulty of execution (d), cost (c):

P = f(p,d,c) = p / (c . d)

Other factors may be relevant.

This is why you first LOOK before using any tools, check cable
connections before renewing cables, use common sense before opening
the repair manuals.

Pathetic, really.
