maybe someone out there can help me with my problem, i own a toshiba satellite 1905 S303 laptop its been very good till recently when i would be playing a game and i play games on here alot just to waste some spare time, and recently after say 5 ten minutes of gameplay my computer would suddenly shut off and i can turn it on and go back in no problem, but at frist i thought it was my display driver its an ATI M6-P so i took the laptop apart and located the display drive which was tricky enough to do. and messed around with that i am very good with computers well with PC's that is and i have never ran into a problem like this with one of them. if anyone could help me fix my problem i would be very glad
thanks-

Sounds like your laptop is overheating. Many laptops have a fail safe built
in when they reach a certain temperature and will shut down automatically
without warning. Check to make sure all fans are spinning and clear of
dust.

I am having a similar problem with my 1905-s303. I just bought the
machine about a year ago and it was running very well until I ran any
kind of significant video stream (music videos). After that the
machine began shutting off at random. It has gotten to the point that
it won't stay on more than 5 or 10 minutes befores shutting off. Then
when I try to power it back on, sometimes it will get to the desktop
but sometimes it can't get through the boot and shuts itself off
again. Any suggestions?

I have the same darn problem. I have a HP laptop and after about 5-10 min of game play, my laptop just shuts off. Is there anyway to shut off the overheating thing? I can't seem to open up my laptop and "clear" away the dust, doesn't seem to help when I cleared away the dust from the back fan....

there anyway to shut off the overheating thing? I can't

Having just about launched my HP laptop out the window a few times
for this shut-off thing I can offer a couple of thoughts. In my case
the cooling fan had completely stopped working.

I opted not to haul it in for a (several) week repair and instead
bought a cooling pad for it. Worked great and totally eliminated the
heat related shut downs. I shopped around and bought one similar to
the one in this link:

http://www.xoxide.com/evnopad.html

There are several types and styles available and I decided to get one
which also included an AC adapter as well as USB power connecion. Do
a search if you are interested and you will find numerous models and
styles of cooling pads to choose from if you are so inclined to use
this method for solving the problem.

It is not the ideal solution but it works. The ideal solution in my
case turned out to be moth-balling (I am using a polite term here)
the HP and buying a new Toshiba. It turns out that the HP model I
had (N5190) turned out to be notoriously bad for all sorts of
hardware failure issues as I discovered when I started researching
the problem. It did not help that an HP desktop we had was also not
turning in a stellar performance and we had to replace some hardware
in it. I am beginning to think that HP should paint all of their
computers lemon-yellow, if you catch my drift, to provide truth in
advertising. But I digress.

Another option if your HP is so equipped is to enable "SpeedStep" to
slow down the processor and thus generate less heat. This was a
fairly good solution for times when I was runing on battery power and
did not need full speed. It seemed to prevent the heat from reaching
the critical turn-off point. Here is a little info about that (link
below). My HP had this option but it was not enabled so I had to
install the driver and set it up.

Hope this helps.

If you "turn off the overheating thing" as you put it, then your laptop will
overheat and cause damage. Is there any game worth damaging your laptop?

I also have this same problem. I own a toshiba satellite 1805-S207. It shuts down in the middle of game play, CD burning, etc. I starts back up ok only to shut back down a few minutes later. It seems to be overheating. First I bought a laptop cooling fan. This simply gave me a little more time before it shut down. I previously paid for a service plan with compUSA and took my computer in with this concern. Almost 3 weeks later I got my computer back, and soon started having the same problems again. I also have problems with my screen shutting off during various applications. I can turn it back on by pushing and releasing the screen closure sensor, but my screen will often turn back off 2-30 seconds later. I have checked all my settings. Sometimes it will help to restart my computer.

Please give me some advice!

Sorry can't help. But you are saying you had a service plan, got it back 3
weeks later, and almost right away the problem started up again, & you didn't
take it back again & shove it in their face and tell them to give you a new
one?

Crap, I'd be out in front of the store picketing the place with a big sign...

Now I know I made a good choice going with a manufacturer's extended warrantee
and not one of those company-that-sells-it warrantees (where they seem to
forget about the 2 year manufacturer warrantee too). Sure I'd have to mail it
back instead of bring it in. But you know I did have one of those
company-that-sells-it based warrantees, only because it was a refurbished item
& not new, and I did have to bring it back in (Brother multi-function
printer/scanner/fax), and guess what they did? Mail the goddarned thing to
Brother...

....D.
