My computer only acts crazy when not in use? help

I have been getting "Kernel Data Inpage Errors".
When I turn the comuter on it starts up fine. Things load up and are
ready to go. Then after about 15 -20 minutes it shuts itself down and
a blue screen pops up with the Kernel Error.

Now the strange thing is that if I keep the computer busy. It won't
cut off. I downloaded a 1 gig file last night. Took 5 hoursto finish.
And it didn't cut off at all. But 15 minutes after the downloading
stopped I get the kernel error. I even burned a huge dvd file which
took 1 hour to process and the hard drive was very active.
Of course 15-20 minutes after the dvd finishes burning I get a kernel
error. So pretty much if I leave the computer inactive for an
approximate amount of time. Things go haywire. But as long as the
computer is busy with some sort of process things are fine. Anyone
know what is going on? Any tips are greatly appreciated.
