My Computer not responding

I have XP SP2 OS. After the last series of Automatic downloads Windows
Explorer had limited function.
1 I could not access the C drive by clicking the + symbol.
2 By clicking the name My Computer the folders appear in the right pane (OK).
3 When closing Windows Explorer, the 'My Computer' icon in the Task Bar did
not close.
4 When right clicking this icon i get an error mesage 'not responding'.
I have done a system restore, everything works OK then after the next Auto
Update the problem returned. The updates being downloaded from Microsoft
were KB911562, 911565, 911567, 912812, 908531 and 890830.
I don't know which update is causing the problem, can anyone help?

908531 is the culprit.

Thanks Gordon, any suggestions what I can do?
I can restore to a point before this problem but I don't know how to block
the problem update from 'Auto Updating'

Firstly don't bother with System restore, just go to Control
Panel-Add/remove programs and uninstall it.
Secondly, as SOON as you have re-booted after the uninstall, go to Windows
Update and mark it as not wanted. (AFAIR........)

BTW, I have Updates set to notify me whan available, not to automatically
download and install, precisely for events like this.........

Since the revised update will be available sometime today, the uninstall
is fine but I wouldn't mark it as not wanted since the patch does
provide protection from a rather nasty vulnerability.

See this security bulletin for details:

Get a new patch with the same number (version 2.0) and you will be OK!!

Do NOT use automatic downloads. Only download what you need.
