My computer is giving blue screen

I bought an emachines laptop a few weeks ago. It has
Windows XP Home Edition with SP1. It has been giving me
blue screen sporadically. By looking at the system log,
the meesage is 'Error code 1000008e, parameter1 c000000e,
parameter2 ebfed7b8, parameter3 83e21b98, parameter4
00000000'. This message sometimes also come with another
message 'The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The
bugcheck was: 0x10000050 0xb576b568, 0x00000000,
0x8053c7b1, 0x00000000). A dump was saved in:
C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\Mini121103-02.dmp'.

Curiously, it happens mostly when the operating system has
finished loading and just before I select the account to
sign on. But there are also times that it happen in the
middle of something.

I have restored from the recovery CD a couple of times
already. It would get stable for a day or two after the
restore but then the blue screen would start coming back
again.

I could not find any fixes in the Microsoft site. Please
help. Thanks.

Hi,

If it comes back after reinstalling, then the problem is probably not
software, but hardware. The errors you describe can be caused by mismatched
or faulty ram. If you want to check the memory, there are free programs
here:

But keep in kind that a thorough test can only be done with test equipment
at a computer shop. At the price of memory today, you may find that the test
costs more than a replacement stick.
