My Computer folder window displayed every time I log on

When installing new software it is not unusual to see
(briefly) a My Computer window displaying the contents of
the sub-folder created within the Program Files folder.
Since installing a particular set of software I now see
the window every time I log on. How can I suppress it?
Uninstalling and reinstalling the software has no effect.

It would probably be helpful to know which software and which folder.

A good start would be to check for entries in your start folder and in these
registry keys:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

The usual warnings about mucking about in the registry apply.

A good alternative is to obtain a copy of msconfig for XP which can be found
here:

Place it in your system32 folder. It works fine in 2000. It will show all
entries in the above locations.
