My Cell drops the Zero if it is first.

I my excel spreadsheet I have a column for zip codes/postal codes. And
since > I collect both US and European addresses, I formatted the cell for
"General". But when I have a zip code that the first number is zero, I lose
the zero
when I either save or move to the next cell. Help?
