My 5600 to 5728 experience...good

After saving a complete PC backup,(and an Acronis image) so I could go back
to 5600, I upgraded to 5728.

Dell Inspiron 6000 1.5M 2gb RAM.

Upgrade went completely smoothly in about 90 mins.

All main programs still working, including CS2, Bridge, all my Canon Photo
software, Fritz chess, Office 2007 etc etc including network printing and
connections to my Macs.

Some control panel settings had to be reset.

Calibrated monitor profiles(Gretag) had disappeared so I had to
recalibrate...and joy of joys the profile now stays loaded after computer
sleeps.

AVG had stopped working so I uninstalled it and put latest Avast in after
reading here.

Windows photo gallery had to rebuild many but not all the thumbnails of my
9000 photos and movies (which are on a separate partition).

Windows Update did some updates after the upgrade.

Looks like Wacom tablet needs reinstalling, not done yet.

Only downside not solved so far is that the machine doesn't go to sleep
after my specified interval, (but does when lid shut or button pressed).

The other puzzle is that I could have sworn (could be wrong) that Mail's
toolbar had a button called "junk" which would move a message straight to
the junk folder...not now, nor in the customisable options, although there
is a "not junk" button. OTOH since I don't believe Mail has a junk learning
capability, "delete" and "junk" buttons would do the same thing effectively.

My upgrade to 5728 went smoothly as well, and I also have uninstalled AVG
because the resident shiels failed to work after the upgrade. I have got EZ
Trust from CA (but not the one thro' the link which says 12 monthd free for
Vista Beta Users)
After talking online to a techie - it is version 7.2 that seems to install
and work correctly, although the startup programs Dashboard tray and 1 other
need unblocking each time my PC boots.

I spoke too soon!

The backup and restore center is not working at all in 5728. The window only
has two lines of text one for backup and one for restore, and nothing
responds.

I tried to report it to Microsoft and IE crashed, repeatedly. Help doesn't
work from the start menua and I had a Mail crash.

Now back to 5600 having restore from the complete PC backup I made before
upgrading to 5728. The restore seems to have worked well.
