I have a problem with my 2 PCs. I have a laptop with XP MCE. On that laptop
I have a folder called "Files", in which I keep all my personal and work
files. I have a second PC, a desktop with Windows XP Pro. My XP Pro machine
has a mapped drive letter (L) and I have changed "My Documents" to point to
L:\Files. I have then made the entire folder available offline and I
synchronise the 2 PC from time to time. This has all worked perfectly for
ages, but in the last couple of weeks something has changed and my XP Pro PC
cannot access the Laptop. I have run through the network setup wizard a few
times on both machines, but the desktop (XP Pro) PC simply cannot find the
laptop PC (XP MCE) any more. When I Explore to My Network Places-> Entire
Network->Microsoft Windows Network->MSHOME, I get the following error:
MSHome is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network
resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have
permissions.
The server is not configured for transactions.
I have tried changing the network name and re-running the setup wizard
several times (which is all I did in the first place to make this all
possible), but it doesn't work, so I can't synchronise My Documents.
Strangely, the laptop can access the desktop PC perfectly and both PCs can
access the internet through the router. It makes no difference if I switch
the laptop to wireless other than slowing everything down.
I clearly need to press a magic button on the desktop, but can someone
please tell me which magic button please?
Thanks. If I have chosen an inappropriate group, please point me elsewhere
(politely!)
Cheers,
