MVP - please help clearing read only setting on net share

Windows XP does not actually look at the Read-Only attribute of folders
anymore. It will always set the folders ReadOnly attribute to TRUE. However
this does not mean that the folder is read only. Take a look at the official

I have used My Computer to navigate to a directory on my XP SP1 machine. I
then share it and want to clear the read-only setting, so I uncheck the read
only button and click apply then Ok, but I cannot copy files to this shared
directory using the \\computer_name\share_name syntax. When I go back into
the sharing tab, the read only button has become checked again. I have tried
every tab I can get my mouse on, but cannot do what I want. This behavior
exists whether I am logged on locally as administrator or as
domain\administrator.

Can anyone please give me precise instructions on how to do this?

Thanks in advance - please don't force me to go back to W2K where I never
had this problem!
