MVP needed!! IE6 fails to display correctly (?maybe .CSS problem)

Keith Pocock

I have IE6 SP1.

Recently it started to intermittently fail to display pages properly - fonts
etc were all coming out wrong and complex websites were almost all text
(like www.macromedia.com)

I have seen one Knowledgebase article about problems with .css and IE6
(article 825057,
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;825057&Product=ie600)
but it does not appear to apply to my case.

I have so far:

1. Run system file checker (sfc /scannow)

2. Used Add/Remove Windows components to 'remove' and reinstall IE6

3. Removed SP1 from IE6

4. Edited the registry (set IE6 "Installed" key to = 0) and forced full
reinstall.

5. Performed an in-place upgrade reinstallation of Windows XP SP1.

None of the above has improved the situation.

I have now installed Netscape 7 as IE6 is unusable. (Its rather good,
actually!). I would like to get IE6 going too as I am designing a website
and need to test it.

Any ideas please? Thanks folks.

You have certainly covered the full range of IE recovery.
I had the same problem, in frustration I downloaded
SlimBrowser from download.com It's IE based and web
tabbed. It's very versatile and even though IE has
rectified itself, I use SlimBrowser instead, it's
terrific. If you do try it, install it while offline so
that "extra" things are not added to your OS.
