Hi.
I bought a Hard disk since my old one died. I would like to install my
winXP on this new Hard disk. My question is, do I need to make my Hard
disk bootable first before I start installing the windows XP? I
remember a friend told me that he installed his windows before but
when booting, the system simply said cannot find bootable device even
though he just installed a new OS on it. Any advise is much needed
(urgently). Thanks in advance!!

No you do not. Make sure that your bios is set to boot to cd 1st. Then put
your cd in the cd rom drive restart your computer. When you see press any
key to boot to cd do that and windows will start its setup routine and will
tell you that the disc needs formatted and will ask if you want to do that.

If you do not know how to change your bios you can download a file from
microsoft windows xp site to create a set of floppy boot disks but you will
need 6 floppys for that.

Greetings --

All you need do with the hard drive is install it. Then, simply
boot from the WinXP installation CD. You'll be offered the
opportunity to delete, create, and format partitions as part of the
installation process. (You may need to re-arrange the order of boot
devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)
