music won't play--tried all I can find

The presentation I had put together had a music file, mp3 that worked fine.
We decided to switch to a different music b/c of copyright and I cannot get
the music to play in the slide show. It is set up exactly the same way as
the previous file and I have tried both a mp3 and wma version of the song.
When you click on the music (speaker) icon on the slide, it plays the music,
but when viewing the slide show, it won't play. I have also tried removing
the file, switching the options to 50,000 kb and reinserting the file--still
no luck!

Will the file play in the MCI media player? (Not windows Media Player)

To test, click Start > Run and enter "mplay32.exe". This starts the MCI
player. Now navigate to your mp3 and see if it plays.

Ok, one more test. Move the presentation to a folder with a short path.
Example C:\test. Move the sound file to the same folder. Delete it from
the presentation and re-insert it.

Ok, tried that and it still won't play. When I click on the sound icon on
the slide it plays (as it did before), but when I click on slide show or view
show, no sound.

Changing the settings to 50000 won't make any difference for mp3 or wma files
as they are always linked. In the custom animation pane does the sound have
an object action of play? Happy to have a quick look if you email me the pres
AND the mp3

Well, I removed all programs from my cpu and reinstalled them and now the
music is working! However, now that I can hear the song all the way, I
realize that I need to trim some 'applause' out of the end b/c of the fact
that I need the song to loop. Any suggestions on the best way to edit the
file and how?
(thank you so much for the help so far!)

I think I would use a sound editor. Do an internet search for Audacity.
Very good editor and best of all it's free.
