The already-mentioned Mpeg Audio Collection is a good program. I've
heard some people also use InsideCat Lite edition [the fw vers]. It's
more of a full hard disk/cd/floppy etc cataloger, though, so not sure
how much support it gives to MP3 and other music formats. You can find
it here:
http://vgtsoftware.com/
[after entering, select freeware Lite ed]
I just got a copy of a MP3 player- cataloger called Media Monkey. Not
too familiar with it yet, but it looks pretty good. It'll help you
manage your music collections. Here's the URL & the blurb:
http://mediamonkey.com/product.htm
"Manage a music library consisting of small to very large collections
(50,000+) of audio files and playlists, whether they're located on your
hard drive, CDs, or a network. Organize, browse, or search music by
Genre, Artist, Year, Rating, etc., and never waste your time trying to
find mp3s you know you have. Automatically identify tracks that are
missing information, whose tags are not synchronized, or that are
duplicated elsewhere.
"MediaMonkey is the music organizer for the serious collector"
Other features:
Synchronize with Portable Audio Devices
Record CDs
Convert audio files
Fix Tags with Automatic Lookup and Tagging
Tag, Organize, Rename
Playlists
"Unique" customizable equalizer effects
Create Statistics and other Reports
[Not sure, but believe all above features are available in the freeware
vers?] BUT the Gold pay-ware version gives you apparently more advanced
CD cataloging abilities, including creating "virtual CD's." Gold vers,
naturally, has several additional features.
Finally, there are several plugins available, which I believe work in
the freeware vers.
MediaMonkey is skinnable, and you can apparently also use WinAmp
plugins, as well as Scripts to perform various tasks.
BUT, above being said, I'm just not sure how much support you get in
the freeware vers for cataloging a bunch of CD's......
