Any recommendations for an editor for the data fields (title, artist,
genre, etc) in .mp3 files? I wish to standardise spellings so that music
library programs can correctly detect the matches.

I think Mp3Tag is the best:

The term for these data fields is MP3 ID Tag (ID1 & ID2).

Don't let the name of this application throw you; it's got one of the
most powerful ID Tag Editors around.

I have enjoyed using this one for a number of years now, it just keeps
getting better:

Tagscanner, now up to beta 4.9

You can arrange fileds in any order, lock fields so you do not have to
retype them, and batch rename.

For tagging MP3s, among the best is ID3-TagIT. It's also the only good
tagger program I know of that support Unicode.

Give MP3Polish (http://www.mp3polish.com) a try.

"Re-tag and rename your MP3 collection with one
click. Automatically cleanup filenames and ID3 information for most
files by using unique algorithms and pattern matching. Use powerful
commands to clean up remaining files."

Plus you can multi-select files and set common fields (like Author)
which saves tons of time.
