Multiple Wireless Networks Cause Errors

Bill

Has anyone had a problem with WinXP dropping your current
wireless connection because of other wireless connection
options?

Until last week, I had Win2000 with a LinkSys wireless
card connecting to my wireless hub. No problems. A few
days ago, I installed WinXP (no changes to the
hardware).

Now, I can connect to my wireless hub without a problem,
but I get disconnected roughly every 3 minutes. WinXP
pops up a message that says that there are multiple
wireless connections to choose from (mine plus one of my
neighbors'). I then have to hit the connect button once
again. It connects fine and I'm good for a few minutes.
Then approx. 3 minutes later, it happens again; I get
disconnected, get multiple wireless connection options,
reconnect, etc.

I have my wireless connection as the only preferred
network to connect to, but that doesn't seem to help.
Any thoughts?

1. Make certain the 802.1x authentication is UNmarked-
Start, run then type in:
ncpa.cpl [ok]
Right click on the wireless connection/ Choose propoerties/
Goto the Wireless Networks tab
In the bottom windows on this page titled 'preferred networks'
choose
your home network name and click on Properties.
Ensure that the checkbox 'The key is provided for me automatically'
is
not checked.
Goto the tab labelled Authentication & ensure that the box labelled
'Enable IEEE 802.1x authentication for this network' is unchecked.
Remove any other SSIDs//networks from the preferred networks list

2. Check to ensure that Windows connects only to preferred networks.
Start, run then type in:
ncpa.cpl [ok]
Right click on the wireless connection/ Choose properties
Goto the Wireless Networks tab
Click the button 'Advanced' at the bottom of the page.
Ensure that the box labelled 'Automatically conncet to
non-preferred network' is unchecked.
