Ten, but you are likely to run into problems installing sufficient video
cards before you hit that limit.

The Ten is just a limit of the control panel applet, there are
workarounds (third party programs). What you run in to is driver and
pci slot limitations. You can work around the driver limitations by
either hacking the driver, or by mixing brands.

If you're going the massive multi monitor route, go with Matrox. I
happen to know from personal experience that you can slap in 4 old
(circa 1995-97) matrox millinenium cards into one win2k machine before
things get weird. Plus Matrox also makes three, and even 4 headed video
cards.

I didn't know that. Can you point me to some such third-party programs? Not
that I have any interest in having more than ten, but I'd like to have the
info handy.

You could have quad crossfire (4 cards with 2 jacks each) with 8 screens,
and then get 8 'Matrox Triple Head 2 go' 's for a total of 24 screens however
the 'Matrox Triple Head 2 go' are about $400 per box, and quad cards are not
cheep as well.

That may be a hardware answer, but his question was "What is the
maximum number of monitors supported by XP?" As I said, the answer is
ten, and you can not have 24 monitors with Windows XP, even if your
hardware supports it.

I just purchased a second external monitor for my Dell Inspiron 9400 Laptop
running Windows XP Professional - I have a digital monitor connected to via
the DVI output and the analog monitor connnected via the VGA output but only
one of the monitors is recognized at a time. What is the solution to this
issue. Thanks

Bring up your video settings: right-click an empty part of the
desktop, choose "Properties", click the "Settings" tabs. Select
monitor number 2 and check "Extend my desktop onto this monitor". You
may want to examine and tweak the other settings that are available.

I use two monitors side by side to extend my desktop. Ican't drag a window
from one display to the other display..I think I have to set mydisplay to
horizontal ..but I don't know how. On the Digital display and monitor window,
I ticked both (twin and Intel[R] dual display clone0 nothing changed.
I'm using windows XP for my desktop. I have to monitors (Digital Viewsonic
VP920b) and my secondry monitor is (Samsung SyncMaster 171N monitor). I have
the same thing displayed on both monitors and I can't move the cursor between
the monitors (Cant find the setting for EXTENDED) ..I changed the disply from
Twin to Dula and clone ..nothing is happening. My graphic driver is
(Intel[R]82954G Express Chipset Family)....Thank you for your time ..Please
advise me

A clone dual dispaly setting means the two displays are mirrored, so
obviously you cannot drag from one to the other.
You need to setup as dual extended desktop

The other option is to press F8 and the Fn key simultaneously.
