I reinstalled winXP, due to an unrelated problem. Now my notebook wont
recognize the external monitor when connected. And if I restart with the
other monitor connected, it comes on as the default, but still not
recognizing two monitors. any suggestions???

No.

Web site for the Laptop manufacturer, or video chip set manufacturer's
web site.

As a rule, you NEVER want to use Microsoft-supplied drivers for everyday
use.

More than likely they were pre-loaded by the laptop manufacturer.
Thanks for the response also.

Sure.

Right click on your desktop and choose Properties....select the Settings
tab...do you see 2 monitors available? Can you click on the 2nd monitor and
select "Extend windows to this monitor"?

No. its like the OS isnt recognizing a 2nd monitor at all. just the
default. and like i said, when i restart with the 2nd monitor connected,
uses it as the default, but still only recognizes one monitor. this is only
recently, after i had to reformat and partition my drive and reinstall XP.

Visit the notebook manufacturers website and download and install the
correct video drivers for your system.

As a rule you NEVER want to use Microsoft's operating system for everyday
use. Especially if you want to hook your computer up to the Net.
