Hello:
i have a laptop with windows 2000, and I want to be able to display an
extended desktop in an external monitor. All the instructions say to go to
display settings and then clic on "extend my desktop", but I only got one
monitor showing up there. I know my computer has the correct hardware
because it came with win XP home and then it was able to do it. I installed
the monitor and everything, and still not able to figure it out. I have a
Sony FX-340 with intel 82815 controller.

You also need the correct drivers. AND those drivers have to support it.
Please view Windows 2000 Help concerning "Installing additional monitors"

you mean the driver for the external monitor? or the video card driver?
I installed the monitor and it installed as plug and play monitor. still no
show.

The drivers for the video card.
If the correct drivers are installed and the card is in
fact capable of extending the desktop on 2 monitors then
the correct video drivers will add the option you're
looking for in the display properties.

well, I know the card is capable of doing it because it worked when I had XP
home in my computer. I installed the XP drivers for my card and still doesnt
work.

now, on second thought........... it may have been that I tested my OLD
laptop with win XP and was able to do it. So I'm not sure now. Maybe its
just that my chipset is not able to handle it. Oh well.

Hello,

Some problem for me. My laptop is running W2K Pro and there is no "extend my
desktop" in the monitor configuration. I have a Mobile Radeon 7500 but it
seems more a limitation of Windows 2000 rather than video controller as far
as I know. If you find out a way let me know.

Have you tried downloading the newest catalyst drivers from ATI?
