multiple monitor settings not saved

WindowsXP home.
Two LCD monitors connected to an ATI Radeon 8500 card.

Monitor 1: resolution 1280 x 1024
Monitor 2: resolution 1024 x 768

Every time i start my computer monitor 1 has the same
resolution as monitor 2 (1024 x 768).
I can set the resolution of monitor 1 to 1280 x 1024, and
it works fine, but after a restart the resolution of
monitor 1 is 1024 x 768 again.

Why does windows not save the resolution setting (how can
I make it save the settings)

I had the same problems using an ATI Radeon 7500 card
with dual monitors of different sizes. ReForce solved
this problem. I had to set the two monitors to different
refresh rates.
