Multiple messages by users (a comment/note)

In case you didn't notice, there is something going on with the newsgroup
system. Many including myself are posting a question or reply and are then
greeted with a message stating that an error occurred and the administrators
will be notified.

If you close the window with the "Close" button, the actual message will be
posted [plus the usual delay].

So you are seeing multiple posts of the same question by the same user as
people think their message wasn't posted.

That has been going on for a few days now. Nothing new about the clunky Web
interface. Just another reason to use a newsreader instead. Got OE?

This bogus error is not unique to Microsoft's webmail-for-dummies
interface to Usenet. It can happen with an NNTP client if the NNTP
server issues an error status for a command but actually accepts the
post despite the error status. Users need to wait (maybe 5 or 10
minutes) to refresh the display or retrieve new posts to see if their
post was accepted and shows up or not. That the webnews-for-dummies
users immediately retry sending their same post shows their lack of
experience in posting to Usenet. Well, that's typical of webnews users
(or those posting to forums that use a gateway to Usenet). Yes, it is a
recent problem with Microsoft's webnews agent. It is ALSO a problem
with lazy or inexperienced users.
