Multiple File Tagging on Desktop Question

Tom

Running SP2, when I want to multiple tag files in a vertical column on my
Desktop using the Shift Key, XP wraps horizontally instead of just tagging
vertically. Is this a setting or can I change the way XP multiple tags
files with the Shift Key?

TIA

Bob,

Was aware of the Control Key for single tagging and appending to tagged
files. What happened to the Shift Key functionality in XP?

Thanks

Just "lasso" them. Left-click on the upper left corner of your top
icon, then drag the mouse down to the bottom-right corner of you bottom
icon.

Use the Ctrl key to select multiple files by clicking on each
individual file

Use the Shift key to select a range of files by clicking on the first
and last file in the range.

It is sometimes faster to first select the entire range with the Shift
key then deselect the unwanted files individually with the Crtl key.

Good luck

Hi Mike,

Yes, lassoing them in a vertical column does work with having to use the
Shift Key to multiple tag in a vertical column.

In Win98se and Win2k, one could single left click on an icon on the
Desktop, move the cursor down vertically say four icons, hold down the
Shift Key, single left click on the fourth icon and all four icons would be
selected. Windows XP appears to not be able to do that. It line wraps
horizontally until it gets to the last file tagged.

Thanks

Ron,

Thanks for all of this info, but I was aware of these features and use them
often. Multiple tagging using the Shift Key has actually spoiled me in
Win98se and Win2k.

In Win98se and Win2k, one could single left click on an icon on the
Desktop, move the cursor straight down vertically say four icons, hold down
the Shift Key, single left click on the fourth icon and all four icons
would be selected in a vertical column. Windows XP appears to not be able
to do that. It line wraps horizontally until it gets to the last file
tagged.

Is this normal behavior or is there a setting tweak I don't know about?

Thanks!

Tom
