Multiple Desktop Layout Configurations

I would like to create different desktop layouts. These layouts would save
the configuration of a variety of application windows and I would be able to
have a default layout. I would be able to change to different layouts by
hotkey or some other quick and easy mechanism.

If this is available within Windows XP Pro.... great. If not is anyone
familiar with software that is capable of doing this?

Thank you very much for any help you can provide.

Nothing right in XP for this but third party options are available.

I've used programs that will let the user create various layouts and save
them. Launching the program, loads the last used layout. Changes are made
by accessing a Windows> Layout menu and selecting the one most appropriate
for the current work at hand. Not all programs include this kind of
customizing but it is a feature that may not be obvious unless you dig
deeper past the program's obvious menus and toolbars.

I've also used virtual desktop programs that will save a desktop with
certain apps loaded and ready to go. However, these usually don't go so far
as to include a preferred layout of a single program in addition to the
saved desktop. Personally, I end up unloading these programs as I don't
have the patience to keep tweaking different desktops but many folks seem
to like them. Sometimes a "freebie" of this type of software is included
with the drivers/software for the display adapter.
