Multiplayer problems

I am having problems playing online games. While
connecting, they hang at a certain point, and stay there
indefinately. One game sometimes displays this error: Your
connection is iether very slow or your computer is not
recieving information through port 6112. I know its not my
connection speed, because it performs just fine while
browsing, and the games are hardly enough to outpace my 56k
modem. I have tried disabling the firewall completely,
telling it to specifically allow information through port
6112, but it still wont work. One thing that might be
causing the problem is that I recently installed Earthlink
TotalAccess, bacause the problems bagan about the same time
that I installed it. However, it still doesnt work even
when i close total access and connect normally, like I used
to do. Any help is appreciated.

Alot depends on the speed the game plays at,and which
games you play.A 56k dial-up doesnt always mean it runs
at 56k,what rate does it run at while downloading, try
going to dwnloads and see. Also the ping nos you get on
to the game dramatically relates to connection speed.
Hardly enough to outpace a 56k,you need to do some re-
search,56k and games usually dont mix, most cable conn-
ections exceed 350k,most gammers run at 750k,and even at
that rate, the ping nos makes or breaks the game.

It happens with games like starcraft, tibia, and diablo I.
My connection is on average 45kbps (using speed testers),
just as fast as it was before this probem started occuring,
and those games werent lagging at all then.
