Multihomed networking

I have a Win2k DC that is multihomed. One NIC is connected
to the central switch and the other is connected via a
dedicated switch to a RAID server for backup. Both are
configured with static IP addresses on the same network
and the DC is on the same network as the RAID server.

My question is that I wish to have my DC back up files to
the RAID server on a schedule. But, I want my DC to always
use the dedicated connection, not the central switch.

How can I force the scheduled backup job to use a single
NIC?

use different IP spaces. there besides, your local routing will be jacked if
you try to send data to an address, and the comp doesnt know what NIC to
use. Typically, it will use the NIC that is configured for a default
gateway. Only 1 interface per server can have a default gateway.

So, have your backup be a different address space, like 172.16.10/24 Any
traffic that should go to the backup machine will HAVE to go out the
dedicated NIC. you can resolve the hostname of the Raid server using DNS, or
a hosts file. Depends on your environment.

Also, consider moving the DC to the central switch, as it sounds like you
are trying to segragate your normal traffic from your backup traffic.
