Multi Monitor on notebook?

I am running Windows XP Pro SP2 on a notebook computer that has a single VGA
output that I normally use with a multimedia projector. I've recently
connected a second monitor but can only display on Monitor1 or 2, or the
same thing on 1 and 2,
HOW DO I SPLIT THE SCREENS so that I can different applications on each
monitor? THANKS

In display properties, if you have two monitors connected, you should
have a drop down box listing both monitors on the "Settings" tab. On
a laptop, you may have this whether or not there are actually multiple
monitors connected.

Click the 2nd monitor and make sure that you have checked the option
for "Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor". If I'm
understanding your question correctly, this should get what you want.

WORKED GREAT THANKS, now just one more question the system seems to have
slowed down considerable now that I've extended my screen is this normal?

The memory to display the second monitor had to come from somewhere, and
that somewhere is system memory.

No, this isn't correct. System memory can not be used for video
memory, except in the special case of the motherboard having
on-board video, rather than using a separate video card.

Remember this is a notebook, an e-machine at that. Might be a good chance
that it's using onboard video, any ideas on how I can test this?
