I have 1 of 4 users running an Access/SQL-based application. When trying to
launch application, the following message appears:

This application has failed to start because MSVCR71.dll was not found.
Re-installing the application may fix this problem.

I reinstalled the client but the vendor says this is a Windows issue not
their application issue. I looked at different machines and the MSVCR71.dll
appears to be the same size and date as other pc configs. I also tried
re-registering the dll. Thinking it may be an Office 2003/Access problem I
ran the Office Repair. Nothing.

Any ideas on how to correct this problem short of running a full WinXP
restore.

It may be more to do with where the dll is positioned, than whether it is
registered or not ie whether your application can find it - so you could
try placing it in the same folder as the application, or somewhere in your
path eg in c:\windows.

If it's there and you can see it - it's real. If it's not there and you can
see it - it's virtual. If it's there and you can't see it - it's
transparent. If it's not there and you can't see it - you erased it!

If you have not fixed your problem yet try typing MSVCR71.dll in the google
bar. Or here is the webpage for the download of the file
http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?msvcr71 Once downloaded
save the file. Copy the file and paste it in the system 32 folder. The path
to that folder is Localdisk C: then Windows Then System 32. Hope this helps
you with your problem.
