mstime.dll

Hi,
Each time I try to upgrade to IE 6 (SR1) an error message
pops up during the installation that says
c:/windows/system/mstime.dll file is corrupt or has not
installed properly. I search my hard drive to find the
file (its there) but have absolutely no idea how to fix
this problem. Instead, I've gone back to the previous IE
version. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

Hi Adrienne :)

Try the following and see if it helps.

Can't Install IE SP1 - Courtesy of Oops!

For the "unable to install all components" issue in WinME, try this:

Go to My Computer - Tools - Folder Options - View:
- Select "Show hidden files and folders", click Apply - OK

Create a folder named "Old uninstall".

Go to folder C:/Program Files/Internet Explorer/Uninstall Information.

Now Edit - Select All - Cut all files.

Open "Old uninstall" folder and paste the files.

You will now be able to install all the troublesome components.

If everything works as expected, you can delete the "Old Uninstall" folder
and the files you moved

Hi Jan,
Unfortunately, none of the information is helpful. IE6
(SR1) contains a file called mstime.dll that appears to be
defective. When I try to install the program an error
message appears that tells me that the
c:/windows/systems/mstime.dll is corrupt or has not been
install properly. Since the file is bundled in IE6
ordering a disk with an inherent problem or reading about
browser highlights isn't beneficial. Can anyone shed some
light on this problem? How do I get around the defective
mstime.dll file? Thanks.

Hi Adrienne :)

Ok..I've got bit more information on this thing. <g>

This is what it is:

mstime.dll = Microsoft (R) Timed Interactive Multimedia Extensions to HTML

Part of Internet Explorer 6.0 SP1 ,Windows XP Home 2002, Windows XP
Professional 2002, Internet Explorer 5.5, Windows ME among others.
Many versions of mstime.dll.

So, you didn't tell me what version of Windows you have, which may be
important at this point. But, first, look in the Control Panel | Add/Remove
Programs and see if the IE6 SP1 is listed in there. If so, then unintall it
if you can. If not, that's good.

Report back what you find and your Windows version. Also, are you going to
IE6 SP1 from IE6 or IE5.5, or IE5.0? It does make a difference.

I have a game plan but, need this information back first so I give you the
right instructions. :)
