What do you do when MSRT doesn't run?

Which virus is blokcking it?

Malwarebytes and superantivirus don't find anything wrong.

thanks

What happens? Are you doing a fresh download, or running the copy that is
local on the machine after the last security updates?

Both, On machine in c:\windowd\system32 and the kb article via a
search on google.

If I want to run MSRT I type MRT into the "Run" box. It works every time.
Entering MSRT gives an error. I wonder if that is your problem in getting it
to run?

The problem was a virus called "total XP security or was it called XP
Defender" which blocked most Microsoft services. There were 2 files on
the machine. Ave.exe was located in the user settings and
acopirano.dll was in the Windows directory. Spyware Doctor could
remove it once you paid for it.

T%hanks for the reply.

That is OK. I goy lucky. I did all by remote control as my
btother-in-law was 500 miles away. I found a corrupted registry entry
that triggered the virus. Once I found the virus, it was downhill from
there (for the virus).

thanks

Your brother-in-law is lucky!

Cleaning a machine remotely can be nearly impossible--glad it worked!
