MSQUERY and ACCESS PASSWORD PROTECTION

L

We are currently using Access 2000. We have an Access database which
is PASSWORD PROTECTED. We are using a system DSN and a microsoft
access driver to setup an odbc to the access database held on one of
the our team areas. We are then Going into Excel (on blank worksheet)
/ Data menu / Import External Data/ New Database Query. This uses
MSQuery to interrogate a data source.

On the DataSource list, I choose the DSN i have created above,
expecting it to ask me for the password as this DSN links to my
password protected access database. It did not ask for the password
but presented me with a list of tables within the database and I was
able to return any data I wished to Excel.

This is happening on some pc's but not others, other users are being
presented with a password box.

There is a security issue here in that MSQuery is circumventing MS
Access password protection.

Has anyone seen this problem before.

Many Thanks Lisa
