I am confused between MSN Messenger and Windows messenger. I know that at
least one is exploited by malware to send popups and other similar things
you may not want and therefore it is often recommended to disable it.

Which service is the one that it is advisable to disable? Maybe both? (I
do not use Instant messenger).

Thanks.

Jeff

Thanks. That helped clear some of the confusion.

Being a document from MS it obviously did not talk about the downsides of
these 2. I know one is used by spammers, maybe both are. I am in a 3 PC
home wireless LAN that share the cable internet through a router. Unless I
am mistaken, it seems that I do not need either one and can safely disable
both. Am I correct?

Jeff

Yes, you can disable both if you want to . . . but if you need to use IM,
it's ok to use one or the other . . . you just need to protect yourself with
these as you would with any other internet related activity such as email
and web browsing.
