Could you please tell me where i would be able to get hold of a copy of MSN
Messenger 4ish.

It has to be an older version and NOT MSN 6.

Please note, no version of MSN Messenger 4.x (MSN Messenger 4.6 was the last version of 4.x)
are supported on the .NET Messenger network (due to a recent system change).

It's for my girlfriend so she can chat on her University machines apparently
there machines don't like the new MSN.
