MsMpEng.exe

Hi:
Recently I noticed that in the Event Viewer/Application window there is a
double entry for UPHC. It states: "The following handles in user profile hive
xxxx\Owner have been remapped because they were preventing the profile from
unloading successfully." It always shows MsMpEng.exe as the problem and gives
HKCU\Software\Classes (0x444) and HKCU (0x4ac) as the reason.
Why does does problem happen and what causes it?
Thanks for your answer,
Fred

Hi Fred,

Please read the first part of Overview
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...B570-42470E2F3582&displaylang=en&Hash=3PKGHL8

Try installing it.

Always, Whatever you do, (installing and updateting or unistalling) always
as a administrator.

Also, make a restore point

After the installation and runing your regulars programs, see if you still
get the messages

I hope this post is helpful, but we would highly appreciate it if you could
rate the pºst, so we can keep the community informed and saves somebody
else the hours of trawling through the web trying to find a solution.

um must be a bug in WD because I also see this on all 4 computers I have
UPclean installed- I took out the computer name for privacy

The following handles in user profile hive
(S-1-5-21-769079328-3410288154-1272911683-1006) have been remapped because
they were preventing the profile from unloading successfully:

svchost.exe (744)

HKCU (0x378)

MsMpEng.exe (856)

HKCU (0x4c0)

HKCU\Software\Classes (0x4c4)

and one minute later it now says

User profile hive cleanup service stopped successfully.

Robin,

I agree it is a bug, and an annoying one.
I do not have the "User profile hive cleanup service" installed on my home
machine and logging off takes about 15 seconds of "saving your settings".
When I shut down WD and stop the "service" the "saving your settings"
message takes about 1 second before the login screen comes up.

Rather than recommend installing the "User Profile Hive Cleanup Service"
this bug should be fixed. I could see this as a temporary fix, but I don't
want still another service running in the background if I don't have to.

I neglected to mention that I get the svchost.exe entry too. And all the

svchost.exe (628)
HKCU (0x334)
MsMpEng.exe (720)
HKCU (0x514)
HKCU\Software \Classes (0x43c)

Hello Engel, Alan, Robin and Tim:
Thank you all for your inputs. I see that I am not the only one with this
problem (which is of little comfort) but at least we brought it to the
attention of Engel and he might find a reason/solution for it. I agree with
you that it must but a bug in WD that needs attention.
Awaiting further comments.... Best regards,
Fred

Fred, Thank you for your confidence, but this package is to big for me, I try
to find the causes of the Servicies, but frankly I give up.

I'm strictly undergraduate and you want me to go for a Doctorate?
I'm a plain ordinary user, like most folks here.

Microsoft does read these groups, and feedback here does get incorporated
into the further work on the product.

I'm sorry I don't have any better advice to offer.

Hello Engel and Robin:
First, Engel I appreciate your CANDOR. Note that I am not using the the
word "SINCERITY" since it may be negatively associated with G.B. Shaw's
quotation listed at the end of your reply. (lol) Your comments have always
been helpful.
Robin, I hope that "Joe" receives your e-mail and takes a glimpse at this
matter.
Thanks to both of you for showing and interest in my question.

Hi Fred,

FWIW The epigrams are chosen at random. Is not my intention to have a
reflection (never) with the OP or the post or any particular person.
