I have WindowsXP.

I turn on the computer every morning.

Then for several minutes the "MSMpEng.exe"
program keep coming on and off and slows
down the computer until it finishes.

Is there some practical way around this
problem?

Please help, Frank

This file is part of Windows One Care Live, particularly the malware
scanning engine.

If I put my computer into 'hibernation mode
and then have it 'wake up' about 30min before
I get to work, would this fix it?
Regards, Frank

I thought it was actually part of Windows Defender (and isn't that in
OneCare)?

No, Defender integrates with OneCare, but can also be installed separately.

It probably would, but that doesn't solve the core problem. Unfortunately,
I don't have any OneCare issues on any of the machines I'm running it on.
You might want to see if there is an update available. Its an on-going beta,
and you may not be running the latest release. You might also want to try
Google and see if you can find other users reporting similar problems.
