MSI P965 Express and Vista Install

I have ditched a previous attempt of Vista upgrade from XP Home in favour of
a clean install. It seems that I am stuck with the dreaded combination of a
Vista install on an ICH8R controller. I have read all the links I can search
and tried every suggestion including one from the reputable Intel whose chip
my board uses. Nothing has worked and the well-published failures have
materialized.
Has anyone clean-installed Vista on this this particular mainboard with
raptor drives configured for Raid/AHCI? I'm afraid going back to IDE just
gives me two small drives which Vista tells me doesn't meet the specification
for install. I am using drivers supplied from both the mainboard supplier
and Intel's latest version which they claim over comes a debilitating change
Microsoft made to AHCI spec'd drivers for drives using LPM. Neither works.

See if the BIOS of your MB allow for your SATA HDD to be in ATA compatible
mode. Then Install Vista, get the SATA driver you need and reboot. Go back
into BIOS and reset the HDD back to SATA

I don't know if you can do that. In fact I am saying I wanted to install on
a Raid config and when I create one I destroy anything on the drive(s)
including a succesful Vista installation.
