MSI must be launched through setup

Hi,

"MSI must be launched through setup"

First, what the heck is MSI ???

Whenever I attempt to bring up MS WORD from the START menu, (Office
XP), using WIN XP Homeand all updated SP's.), I get three of these
error messages in rapid succession before MS word finally launches
correctly. As I delete the first, the second one pops in within a split
second, and then another.

I used Adaware, Spysweeper, Spy Bot and Norton Internet Security's
Anti Virus, and a few others, all updated. Nothing shows up as a virus
or a pop-up.

Doesn't hurt a thing, just frustrates me no end to know that it has me
beat! I deleted the ENTIRE package and reloaded it. Same problem.

Thanks!
Mike
Trouble with this world is that there is too much apathy. But who
cares, anyway!

MSI is a Windows Installer package. Setup.exe is just a stup to call
MSIEXEC.EXE with the .MSI name.

The only time I've seen those messages is when Office needed to reconfigure
and no longer had access to the install source.

He is absolutely right. If you didn't do a "complete" install, but instead
chose the default install, not everything is installed. Then when you go to
use something that has yet to be installed, you will get a popup, usually
telling you to insert the install media for installation.

A full install prevents this from occurring.

Put the office CD in the drive and point to the MSI on the CD.

My "DUH?" was meant to show my abject stupidity because I did not
understand the response. And, by no means was meant to be a negative
comment!

Do exactly what Richard Urban said: insert you Office or Word
installation CD *before* starting Office or Word, and likely all will be
well since the installer will have the source CD from which to complete
the installation. Otherwise, point the installer dialoged to setup.exe
on the CD.

Hi Mikie,
I had exactly the same problem.
This is what you do: open Norton and go to options. Then go to Miscellaneous
and turn off the office plug in box. And everything will be beautiful!
Let me know what happened.
