mshtml.dll error

Guest

For the past month I have been receiving Internet Explorer shutdowns. This is
what I see.

AppName:iexplore AppVer:6.0.2800.1106 ModName: mshtml.dll

ModVer:6.0.2800.1491 Offset:00050f90

I am running ME. I have completely reloaded my computer from scratch and am
still getting this error. I have also done a thorough disk scan. I also saw
this error once while using windows explorer. Sometimes this error will popup
while sitting static at msn.com. There seems to be no way of predicting when
it will happen. I have searched many sites looking for a resolution to this
but have not found a fix. I am at my wits end. Does anyone have any thoughts
on this?

Hi Arroman :)

Then I suggest that you go to the Windows update and have a scan run and
install all patches and security updates.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/813489/EN-US/
then again from here, in this order:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;816506

also...

If you have Google toolbar, disabled it and see if that helps. Some have
reported that the Google toolbar has caused this problem.

Another known third-party interferer is Norton's Internet Security 2000:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPOR...enDocument&prod=&ver=&src=&pcode=&svy=&csm=no >

also.

Try here:

MSHTML caused in invalid page fault in KERNEL32.DLL
http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/answers.htm#mshtml_kernel32

If the above does not resolve the problem, then you should do a repair of
IE. See the instructions below. Be sure your firewall and AV are disabled
before the repair.

Hope this helps :)

I tried installing patches referenced on those sites. Windows comes back and
tells me that I need to have Internet Explorer SP1 installed< I do have it
installed. I do not have Google toolbar and I also do not use Norton. Thanks

Hi Arroman :)

Try the information here on the update problem.
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/troubleshoot/

If nothing there will work for you, then I suggest that you go ahead and do
the repair. That should replace any damaged or missing files.

Note: Before doing the repair, check your system for any scumware. Be sure
to update any detection and removal programs before running, and run them in
Safe Mode for best results.

Hope this helps :)

Jan,
Thanks for trying to help, but everything I have tried seems to be a
deadend. I tried repairing IE with no luck. I can not put patches on because
for some reason ME thinks that I don't have IE6 SP1 installed. I
cross-referenced my version and it shows the proper version for SP1. My
contention is, that I have reloaded this machine with my restore CD, and I
still have the same problem. I have all the security updates on that windows
update suggests. I guess I'll have to use another browser for the internet.

Hi Arroman :)
JanIl,

Thank You so much for your attention to my problems. I decided that
Windows ME was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to unstable for me to depend on. I
upgraded to XP tonight and my problem seems to be magically gone. Who'da
thunk it? Hopefully. I can look forward to not having to reload my PC
every 3
or 4 months now. What a Concept.......Puter usage without having to reload
periodically!!!!! Thanks again for your support!!! Email me for specifics
if
interested for details on what I found.

You're very welcome! I'm glad to hear that you were able to resolve your
problem, even if it meant going to XP. I do think you'll be happy with the
move, and hopefully, your problems will be few now. But, if you do need
help, we'll be here. :)

Actually that is the update's weird way of telling you that you don't
need it. E.g. it sees that you either already have it installed or
another update which supersedes the one you are trying to install
so it is giving you the only error message it has to indicate that.

BTW you will see the same issue on XP too if you try uninstalling
unnecessary patches on it.
