MSDN Subscription: Target Designer?

M

Mike

I have an MSDN subscription and am trying to figure out how to create a
Windows XP Embedded image for a set top box. I read on MS site that I need
to get the Target Designer to do this which ships with Windows XP Embedded.
I figured XP Embedded would be available using the subscriber downloads off
the MSDN subscriber site but it does not seem to be. Am I missing something
here? Do I have to buy a copy of XPe to do test development with it?? Web
links to more info would be greatly appreciated if you already know the
answer to this. I've been looking through the msdn site and googling for
information this afternoon to no avail.

Thanks in advance for any help!

I don't believe it's part of MSDN. You can either download it or get an
eval copy sent to you for free from one of the embedded distributors.
http://msdn.microsoft.com/embedded/howtobuy/xp/default.aspx

I work for one of those distributors. Feel free to drop me an email and
I'll make sure you get a copy.

Gordon:

Thanks for your help. I actually went ahead and just started downloading
the eval edition after I read your last post. Just to confirm: I can make
WinXP Embedded images with this, etc? Basically, I have set top box
software I have developed/am developing for Windows XP, and want to test it
in XP Embedded for the release version. I know very little about XPe, so I
want to download it, make some test images and load them on the development
STBs I have, and figure out how to use a lot of this in the next couple of
days hopefully.

Yes - it is a fully functional toolkit. The limitations are that the
toolkit will blow up in N days and the images you create will blow up in N
days.

Feel free to contact me if I can help.
