MSDE component

In some of the webchats this year there have been mentions
of an MSDE component for XPe.
Is this still being worked on?
If so is there a release date,
If not has anyone played with creating an MSDE component
in XPe?

I have tried, and gave up for now.
The services are started. I can not connect to the server with the
enterprise manager. Installing the XPe database didn't work.
I probable missed some registery entries. But it is to much work to
detect which. And my knowledge of Component Designer and the working
of the registry is little.
