Frustrated XP User

Yesterday I got some "Critical Updates" from microsoft and
also found some spyware and adware virus on my pc, of which
I used Spybot S&D and Ad-Aware to remove.

Today my PC is full of problems. The error messages are to
do with the MSDART.DLL, the procedure entry points cannot
be found.

So far I have reloaded MDAC V2.8, installed all the
"recommeded XP updates", copied MSDART.DLL to MSDART32.dll,
and finally reinstalled XP service pack 1. Each time I have
rebooted and still had the problems.

I'm about to reinstall XP pro, which I'm dreading because I
use heaps of software (including Visual studio) and don't
have any days to spare shuffeling CDs.

Any other suggests before I give up?

One other question, if I do reinstall XP Pro, am I likely
to have to reinstall all of my other software? Thanks
