What items do I really need to have under the startup
list.I must have 15 different objects there & I'm sure
this is why my computer takes so long to shutdown &
startup.Does my printer, camera need to be checked off &
what do I need to do to start them when I need them.Any
help with making this list shorter & still have my
computer start up would be great.......Thanks in advance..

By using msconfig you can untick the boxes, do a restart
and see what is affected. If things play up just retick
the box. This is the best advice that can be offered
because only you know what is installed on your system.

There may be one or two that are essential - your AV program and
firewall for example. Drivers for some CD burning software (eg InCD or
Direct CD) get loaded. Logitech mouse drivers need the EM-EXEC entry to
get full functionality. And things like video drivers sometimes have
entries that do rather more than provide an alternative control icon in
the taskbar tray. I have 15 items and am happy enough with all of them

About all I can suggest is that you try, bearing this in mind, to
disable some things and see what stops working: nothing in Startup is
likely to prevent the system running well enough for you to unwind
things (and certainly not to prevent you booting to safe mode and
unwinding things there).
