Hi, John.
Since you are new to the groups, please consider my comments (and others) as
lessons, rather than as scoldings. As Will Rogers said, "We're all
ignorant, just about different things." And ignorant doesn't mean stupid;
it just means we haven't learned THAT, yet. To remain ignorant about things
we should learn, though, is not smart.
One of the first lessons is to "lurk" for a while before posting in a group.
Read at least a few (a few dozen is better!) messages and responses to "get
the flavor" of the group before posting. In doing this, you just MIGHT find
that your exact question has already been asked and answered. You might
even try the Find function to shorten the list of messages to read.
The next lesson is that this is NOT Microsoft Tech Support. This is a
peer-to-peer newsgroup full of users just like yourself. Few of us are on
the MS payroll. Some of us have been on this learning curve longer that
others; we like to help out here as our way of repaying similar help that we
received - and continue to receive. We're still learning, too. ;<)
As to your specific problem, as Perdita said, "system32.exe" IS the virus.
Google found 1,880 hits on that search term in less than a second. And OE's
Edit | Find | Message in this folder... found 9 posts here with
"system32.exe" in the Subject line within the past month.
One final point: Remember, these comments are not directed just to you,
John, so don't take them personally. Thousands of people read these posts
every day. We hope that other lurkers will read these comments and take
them to heart. Then we won't have to keep saying these things over and
over.
Remember, in a newsgroup, we all learn from each other. ;<)
