Thanks for the replies -- it helps. I can now make a more-informed
decision as to what programs to disable.
First! Do *not* do anything with Services in msconfig!!!! Use
Services.
Start | Run | Type: services.msc | OK
There are some descriptions of what each service in Services.
From Black Viper...
[[Why can't I use msconfig to change my services?
The reason is because with msconfig and Hardware Profiles, you can
disable services that may be vital to boot your system. With the
management console (services.msc) you cannot. Also, msconfig, while
unchecking the box, is disabling the service.
The "Disable All" button also scares me. It should not even be there
as no reason exists to justify disabling "everything."]]

Is there a place that tells what most of the programs
shown on the SERVICES tab of MSCONFIG are
for?
My guess is that several could be 'unchecked' but
I'd like to know more about them first.
Thanks in Advance
