msconfig problem

Hi

I'm running win XP home and have used msconfig in the past to control
programs that have inserted themselves in the startup process.

Suddenly, however XP will not give me access to this command, saying "An
access denied error was returned while attempting to change a service. You
may need to log on using an Administrator account to make the specified
changes".

I haven't altered/added any accounts to XP - its just me, and I am able to
perform admin-type tasks other than use msconfig.

Thinking there may be some kind of 'virus' activity going on, I ran a deep
virus scan, 'adaware' and 'spybot search and destroy' - but this has made no
difference.

Any idea how I can wrest back control of msconfig?

Thanks in advance.

Justin

You might start a new user account then try,the old might be corrupted. Also,
at start up,tap the F8 key,select safe mode,enter as administrator,adjust
MsConfig You can also go to run, type:services.msc In msc, double click the
service, change to disable, the service will not start on start up.
